Velus Jones Jr had a strong final season for the Tennessee Volunteers. He was one of Tennessee’s top targets and ended up being drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears.
The Bears are excited in what they are getting in Jones, who just turned 25 as a rookie but is lightning quick. He’s hoping that speed can make him a dynamic playmaker in the NFL.
“Oh man, you know my mentality every time I touch the ball — make a play,” Jones said, via NBC Sports Chicago. “I’m looking to score every time the ball hits my hands. I’m really good with yards after catch and especially with yards after contact. That’s why I’m pushing to make sure I’m as healthy as possible and so I can be that dynamic player I know I can be.”
Jones missed Chicago’s Week 1 victory against the San Francisco 49ers with a hamstring injury, which he’s been dealing with for the past month.
Chicago kicks off Week 2 against Green bay on Sunday night, and Jones is hopeful he can lace up with the rest of the Bears’ impressive rookie class.
