Multiple Florida Gators have changed their jersey numbers as we head towards the college football season.

As noted by Zach Abolverdi of On3, UF’s spring roster shows that sophomore wide receiver Vernell Brown III has changed his jersey number from No. 8 to No. 1. After no players wore No. 1 last season, Brown and safety Bryce Thornton have both decided to wear it.

Sophomore defensive edge Jayden Woods has also decided to change his jersey number to No. 0 after wearing No. 15 last season.

Brown had a special true freshman season. The wideout earned Freshman All-SEC honors as a wide receiver, all-purpose player, and return specialist. The first time this has ever happened in Florida Gators’ history.

Brown also led the team in receiving yards with 40 catches for 512 yards. He also had 11 punt returns for 139 yards and 7 kickoff returns for 122 yards. He ranked fifth in the nation among true freshmen and second among true freshman wide receivers in all-purpose yards with 773 yards.

Woods also earned Freshman All-SEC honors this past season. With 28 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 3 quarterback hurries, 1 interception, 1 pass breakup, and 1 fumble recovery, Woods is set to explode onto the scene in his second year.
