Just as everyone predicted before the season, Mizzou, Kentucky and Vanderbilt were the only SEC East teams to close out the regular season with victories.
Vanderbilt’s 45-34 victory over in-state rival Tennessee was especially impressive, dashing the Volunteers’ Sugar Bowl hopes and ensuring bowl eligibility for the Commodores in the process.
As coach Derek Mason left the field following the home win, he celebrated with the fans, yelling “This is our state!”
The Commodores still have a long way to go to earn top billing in the state of Tennessee, but upsetting the Vols on Saturday night was so exciting for Mason and his squad that he deserves a pass for his brash statements.
