Former Auburn signal-caller and current Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton has been outwardly critical of NFL officials in recent weeks.
Newton feels as if he’s not being protected by the officials when inside the pocket. He made this comment (via USA TODAY) after Carolina’s 30-20 victory over the Arizona Cardinals this weekend:
“It’s really taking the fun out of the game for me. At times I don’t even feel safe. And enough is enough.”
Mike Pereira — a former NFL official and Vice President of Officiating for the NFL — made an appearance on the FOX show ‘Undisputed’ this Monday. Pereira is currently the rules analyst for FOX Sports during NFL broadcasts.
In no uncertain terms, Pereira shot back at Newton for his behavior — and even provided statistical analysis for why he disagreed with Newton’s assertions.
Suffice it to say, but these two might not be sending each other Christmas cards in December.
