Video: Georgia ground game bails out poor effort from Jacob Eason

Playing on Sunday instead of Saturday due to Hurricane Matthew, Georgia defeated South Carolina with a sleepy effort 28-14.

Bulldogs quarterback Jacob Eason is still just a freshman, so he’s going to be inconsistent, and he was anything but sharp in Columbia. Fortunately, UGA was strong in the running game and didn’t need much from Eason’s arm.

Both Nick Chubb and Sony Michel went well over the century mark on the ground for the Dawgs, plus third-stringer Brian Herrien contributed 82 yards of his own. With a 14-0 lead at halftime — and not a lot of respect for the Gamecocks offensively — coach Kirby Smart didn’t feel the need to take any chances after intermission.

As for USC, coach Will Muschamp and Co. were shut out in the first half for the third time in six games. Yet another change at the QB position from freshman Brandon McIlwain to senior Perry Orth produced equally inept results.

Be sure to watch the video above for some quick commentary from a very sloppy affair at Williams-Brice Stadium.
