Video: Umpire forces North Carolina QB Mitch Trubisky to fumble in Sun Bowl

Quarterbacks have enough to worry about while leading their offense on the football field.
However, North Carolina QB Mitch Trubisky will have to add one more thing to the list — the umpire.
Just before halftime of Friday afternoon’s Sun Bowl, Trubisky scrambled for a first down before the umpire ran into his right arm, causing a fumble that Stanford recovered.
The embarrassing moment can be seen in the above video. Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, the referees are considered part of the playing field, so the fumble stood and the Cardinal took possession of the football.
Of course, it’s hard to blame the umpire for the turnover. When a play is coming right at a referee, they do whatever they can to try to get out of the way. Sometimes it works, and sometimes, like on Friday afternoon, it results in a hilarious mishap that will be on blooper reels for years to come.
