Vince Marrow to turn down offer to join Bill Belichick’s UNC staff, per report
Vince Marrow is reportedly leaning toward staying on as an assistant at Kentucky instead of joining Bill Belichick’s first staff at North Carolina, sources told FootballScoop on Thursday.
Marrow, who’s been at Kentucky since 2013 as both the associate head coach and tight ends coach, is the longest-tenured assistant under Mark Stoops, who began as the head coach in Lexington the same season. Apparently, the 56-year-old Marrow is going to stick as Stoops’ right-hand man instead of joining the legendary Belichick in Chapel Hill.
According to FootballScoop, Marrow had been thinking about heading to UNC for the past couple of weeks but decided to stay with Kentucky blue instead of UNC’s shade of blue.
Marrow, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, is among the highest-paid assistants on Stoops’ staff. His contract runs through the 2026 season and pays him at least $1.3 million annually, according to FootballScoop.
Belichick replaced Mack Brown as the head coach at North Carolina earlier this month, creating a huge buzz in Chapel Hill and a big-time attraction for assistants like Marrow. But Marrow has apparently thought about it long enough and has decided to stay in the SEC instead of heading to the ACC.
Before his long tenure at Kentucky, Marrow was a graduate assistant at Nebraska in 2011 and 2012.
