Vince Young did not want to leave Bryant-Denny Stadium without getting a postgame handshake with Nick Saban.

Michael Casagrande of AL.com was down on the field after the game and observed Young making sure to find Saban as the Alabama head coach made his way to the locker room.

Young had a decorated playing career at Texas from 2002-to-2005, leading the Longhorns to a BCS national title in his final season. Young’s name is found throughout the Texas school record book, along with numerous Rose Bowl and BCS championship game records.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, Young played in the league until 2014, albeit as an offseason or practice squad member only the last 3 years. He attempted a professional comeback with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2017.

In 2021, Young was hired by Texas as a special assistant in the athletic department. He previously worked for his alma mater in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement as a development officer from 2014-to-2019.
