Ohio State may regret having to give up recruiting this 5-star player.

As most football fans know, there is a long list of items and activities that are not allowed when going after a recruit. According to a recent report in The Lantern, Ohio State self-reported violations associated with the recruitment of 5-star DE Micah Parsons and agreed to quit recruiting the prospect.

Colin Hass-Hill shared the story, and what makes these violations interesting is that they are connected to ESPN’s popular pre-game show College GameDay:

The violations, which The Lantern obtained through a public-records request, were the result of improper contact that happened during the recruit’s visit to the set of ESPN’s College GameDay at The Oval prior to the Buckeyes’ game against Oklahoma.

According to Hass-Hill, Parsons met Kirk Herbstreit, Eddie George, Lee Corso, and Rece Davis during his 2017 visit and retweeted pictures of the meetings afterwards. The contact with media members during an official recruiting visit is a violation that Ohio State self-reported to the NCAA.

The Buckeyes agreed to quit their recruitment of Parsons as a result of the infractions.

Parsons is rated the No. 1 WDE by 247 Sports and is the No. 4 player in the nation for 2018. It should be noted that Georgia is still listed as in the running for Parsons, but he is heavily predicted to select Penn State.

Here is a look at his highlights from Hudl:
