Report: Vols working on contract extension, raise for Butch Jones

Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart told Volquest.com that the program is working on a contract extension and raise for head coach Butch Jones, footballscoop.com reported Tuesday. Jones’ current deal is worth $2.95 million and has four years remaining.

The website also reported that Jones was contacted by Michigan about filling its coaching vacancy — but would not be a candidate — hours before the Wolverines parted ways with former coach Brady Hoke.
Jones has a career record of 61-40 as a head coach and is 11-13 at Tennessee, leading the program to its first bowl game appearance since 2010. The second-year head coach improved from a 5-7 record in 2013 and is responsible for a top-5 recruiting class in 2014.
Prior to his tenure at Tennessee, Jones made head coaching stops at Central Michigan (2007-09) and Cincinnati (2010-12). Jones led the Bearcats to two Big East Championships (2011, 2012) and was named 2011 Big East Coach of the Year.
