Walter Camp was one of the most influential figures in shaping college football. The award named in his honor announced its preseason watch list for the 2023 season on Friday.
All 45 of those who made the watch list can be viewed here.
Plenty of SEC players were named to the watch list. Eight total SEC standouts were featured. The only team to have multiple players chosen was LSU with two. The remainder of the teams just had one player make the cut.
The winner of the 2022 Walter Camp award was USC QB Caleb Williams. Williams had 5,347 yards passing with 52 total touchdowns in his first season with the Trojans.
The last time that someone from the SEC won the award was former Alabama WR Devonta Smith in 2020. Smith not only had 1,856 yards receiving with 24 total touchdowns, but took home the Heisman that season as well.
Here’s who made the Walter Camp preseason watch list out of the SEC.
- Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia
- Joe Milton, QB, Tennessee
- Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU
- Quinshon Judkins, RB, Ole Miss
- Kool-Aid McKinstry, DB, Alabama
- Harold Perkins, LB, LSU
- Will Rogers, QB, Mississippi State
- Raheim Sanders, RB, Arkansas
Can any of these SEC players mentioned take home the award in 2023?
