Walter Nolen and the Ole Miss Rebels had a huge bounce back win this weekend, as they knocked off South Carolina 27-3 after losing to Kentucky last weekend. One big reason they won the game was an incredible performance from the defense.

The Gamecocks finished with 313 yards of offense but could only muster 3 points. The Rebels forced 2 turnovers and allowed South Carolina to go only 5-of-16 on 3rd downs, and Nolen was the leader all day for Ole Miss.

He finished the game with 5 tackles, 3 TFLs, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery. His performance earned national recognition, as he was named the Reese’s Senior Bowl Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Nolen is in his first season at Ole Miss after playing his first 2 collegiate seasons at Texas A&M and has been a huge boost to the Ole Miss defense. He has 24 tackles on the year and 2.5 sacks, but it is simply his presence on the field that is making the Rebels defense better. He is consistently double-teamed by opposing offensive lines, and it is creating 1-on-1 matchups for guys like Jared Ivey (5 sacks) and Suntarine Perkins (4.5 sacks).

Nolen and the defense will have a big challenge next week as the Rebels travel to take on the LSU Tigers next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
