Washington Redskins place former Alabama WR Cam Sims on injured reserve

Cam Sims had a strong preseason that earned him a place on the Washington Redskins roster for the 2018 season. However, the regular season didn’t start well for the former Alabama wide receiver.
Sims sustained a high ankle sprain on his first play of the Redskins’ season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. On Tuesday, Washington placed Sims on injured reserve.
Two players per team each season are eligible to return from injured reserve, but it can’t happen until eight weeks after the player is placed on the list. So it’s possible that Sims could return to the Redskins after Week 8.
Sims had a strong preseason after not getting selected in the 2018 NFL Draft and signing with Washington as an undrafted free agent. The former Tide receiver is in his rookie season.
While at Alabama, Sims didn’t contribute much. He totaled 467 receiving yards and two touchdowns over four seasons from 2014-17.
It’s unfortunate that Sims went down with an injury this early in his NFL career, but perhaps he’ll come back this season. And if not, he could still be a contributor for the Redskins next year.
