Tennessee head coach Butch Jones spoke out on Monday night about his job security.
While speaking at the Touchdown Club of Memphis, Jones emphasized he’s just trying to move past the criticism and go to work.
“That’s part of being a head football coach. It kind of comes with the territory. It’s nonsense, but it’s out there,” Jones said. “You put blinders on and you go to work each and every day.”
Jones, whose “hot seat” has seemingly been melting by the day in Knoxville, went on to say Tennessee has a great, passionate fan base and said they are “very loyal.”
“We’re working hard each day, and it’s a long, long football season,” he added. “There are seven games left to be played, and there’s a lot out there to play for.”
Tennessee was shut out for the first time since 1994 on Saturday when Georgia strolled into Knoxville and won 41-0. The previous week, the Volunteers struggled past lowly UMass 17-13. The week before that, they lost a 26-20 heartbreaker to Florida on the final play of the game.
Many Vols fans have cited coaching malpractice as a reason they are frustrated with Jones.
