WATCH: Colin Cowherd makes compelling case for Mike Gundy to leave Oklahoma State

This was supposed to be the year for Oklahoma State, Fox Sports radio host Colin Cowherd said today on his show.
But the Cowboys are 9-3 this season, including a loss to arch-rival Oklahoma, and that’s far below the expectations, given the personnel and other factors Cowherd outlined. That’s part of the reason Cowherd believes Gundy going to Tennessee makes sense for the Oklahoma State grad.
“Gundy this year had a three and a half year starter at quarterback,” Cowherd said of Mason Rudolph. “Had the easiest schedule he’s ever had. They should have been in the Big 12 Championship game and he didn’t get there. He’s got the best wide receiver in the country, I believe. This was the year for Mike Gundy to win at Oklahoma State. … They’ve got great facilities, they’ve got an NFL quarterback, they had the best receiver, they had a completely workable schedule. Oklahoma had to go to Ohio State, Oklahoma had a much tougher schedule, and once again Oklahoma, their rival ended up in the Big 12 Championship.”
The Cowboys also lost to Kansas State and TCU. Meanwhile, Rudolph and wide receiver James Washington led the Big 12 in passing and receiving, respectively.
“You could make an argument it is a perfect time for Mike Gundy to break out, reboot at Tennessee,” Cowherd continued. “He’s a good coach, this would be a really good hire. This was the year at Oklahoma State and they underachieved. Don’t be surprised if he parachutes to Knoxville, which is a nice place to live.”
