It will be strange watching Derrius Guice carry the football in a jersey number other than No. 5. In three seasons at LSU, Guice ran for more than 3,000 yards sporting No. 5 and even incorporated it into his Twitter handle.
Now a Redskins rookie, Guice will sport No. 29 in Washington. In pro sports (and even college), we often hear of jersey numbers have some special significance relating to a friend, family member or childhood idol. In this instance, however, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Guice recently sat down with RedskinsTV.com and explained he didn’t have much of a choice when it came to his number. As referenced in the conversation, No. 5 wasn’t an option due to NFL jersey number rules based on position. The good news is Guice doesn’t seem to be hung up on which number he’ll wear.
D.C. radio station The Team 980 shared the video (below) via their official Twitter account.
