It’s not a competition, but former Auburn LB Deshaun Davis might have had the most emotional moment of the weekend among the newest NFL draftees.
AL.com’s Wesley Sinor was on hand to capture the moment Davis was called by the Cincinnati Bengals and learned he would be picked in Round 6 of the NFL Draft. As many Auburn fans are aware, it’s Davis’ backstory that makes the moment so powerful.
As was mentioned by Trey Wingo on ESPN’s draft broadcast, Davis was kicked out of school at 12 years old. A teacher told Davis’ mother that she did a terrible job raising him and predicted he would be dead or in jail before he had the could graduate high school. At Auburn, Davis ran into a different kind of adversity. In 2015, then-position coach Lance Thompson told Davis that he wasn’t good enough to play linebacker at Auburn. A graduate assistant convinced Davis not to transfer and stick it out. Now Davis is heading to Cincinnati after a successful AU career.
He’s a come a long way and will have many people rooting for him.
