LSU’s student section is known for being rowdy and intimidating, but sometimes it goes too far for the school administration’s liking.

Case in point: The song “Neck,” which is simply the LSU band’s harmless rendition of Cameo’s and Dem Franchize Boyz’s “Talkin’ Out Da Side of Ya Neck.” But the student section made it a controversial tune after replacing a portion of the lyrics with a lewd chant that could be heard on TV broadcasts.

The Tigers’ athletic department temporarily outlawed the song in 2010, but the band has played it a few times since. Still, students can be heard loudly chanting for the band to play “Neck” at virtually every home game.

LSU coach Ed Orgeron was asked during his Monday press conference whether he thought the band should play “Neck.” You can check out his response in the video below.

Because the song has been a point of contention in recent years, Orgeron was wise to take a mostly neutral stance on it. Though he wishes the song could be played without the vulgar chant accompanying it, there’s almost no chance the student section would refrain from belting it out once the first few notes started playing.
