Penn State all but officially fell out of College Football Playoff contention with a last-second 27-24 loss to Michigan State on Saturday evening.

In an ugly game that took a long time due to weather delays, the Spartans held on at home and now shockingly control their own destiny in the Big Ten East.

As Nittany Lions players were leaving the field after the defeat, though, coach James Franklin did something classy, chasing the players down and telling them to go shake hands with the Michigan State players:

They say someone’s true character can be seen after a loss, and Franklin’s gesture of respect toward the Spartans won’t go unnoticed.

The players leaving the field learned a lesson about sportsmanship, too, which is an important part of football.

Good for James Franklin for handling his team’s second loss of the year with class, even when it would have been easier to just head back to the locker room.
