Alabama seemed to come out as advertised early in the LSU game, but the Crimson Tide’s first drive was stopped abruptly when QB Tua Tagovailoa suffered an injury to his midsection on a dead ball penalty.
Tagovailoa was sandwiched on a blitz by DB Grant Delpit and Michael Divinity Jr. as they met at the same time as Alabama was whistled for a flag. Tagovailoa briefly missed time, but returned to the game after trainers came on the field.
Alabama had two false starts on the 11-play drive that ended with a punt after it gained 41 yards. Mac Jones came on to relieve Tagovailoa, but he was left with a third down and 28.
The drive also ended Alabama’s scoring streak on opening drives this season to eight games. The Crimson Tide had to punt on fourth and 30 from the LSU 34-yard line.
