Michigan State managed to turn a fairly routine field goal attempt into one of the most bizarre plays you’ll see all season.
Spartans kicker Matt Coghlin appeared to lose his footing not once, but twice, prompting holder Brian Lewerke to pull the ball and attempt a contested throw. A Rutgers defender ended up intercepting the poor pass following Coghlin’s blunders, making for quite the ugly play.

As strange as this play is, it may not be the weirdest thing Michigan State’s special teams units have done this season. Against Ohio State earlier this month, Spartans coach Mark Dantonio called for an intentional safety on a punt with his team losing by a point.
At least that play was intentional. The one against Rutgers just seems like poor execution, though it is highly entertaining.
