An official in Friday night’s North Carolina-Wake Forest game just pulled off one of the more athletic plays of the season. And when a broadcaster on the game described it as one of the most athletic plays of the game, it’s a sad commentary on this matchup.

UNC QB Sam Howell scrambled for a first down, the Tar Heels’ first of the night, but then he upended the umpire, who was sent tumbling. No problem, though. That’s when the official went into full somersault mode, and despite losing his hat, pulled off a beautiful maneuver.

It was a rough start for the Heels, who were down 21-0 by that point thanks to 3 touchdowns from Wake QB Jamie Newman.

The Tar Heels opened the game with 2 punts and 2 fumbles, then had 4 more drives end in punts.

Both teams entered the game 2-0.
