WATCH: How did Rick Barnes find out he was SEC Coach of the Year? His grandkids broke the news
In just his third season of a total rebuild of Tennessee basketball, Rick Barnes has won SEC Coach of the Year. Both the league’s coaches and the AP voted to award Barnes with the honor after leading the Volunteers to a co-championship of the SEC following the regular season.
Perhaps even better than winning the award, Barnes was informed of the news by his two grandchildren, Caleb and Avery. Both children were adopted from Africa by Barnes’ daughter Carley and her husband. A pretty special moment for Barnes and his family.
