Mountain West coaches have heard plenty of criticism about their non-conference scheduling in recent years. So when they pulled off a big weekend of Power 5 upsets, San Diego State coach Rocky Long was quick to pounce on the news.

Never mind that Long’s team squeaked by FCS Weber State by a paltry 6-0.

Mountain West teams knocked off opponents from the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC when Wyoming beat visiting Missouri, which was one of two home games in the Mountain West. The scoreboard was:

  • Nevada 34, Purdue 31
  • Boise State 36, Florida State 31
  • Hawaii 45, Arizona 38 (Week 0)
  • Wyoming 37, Missouri 31

“So I guess our schedule has gotten better than everybody seems to be thinking it is,” Long told reporters in a video posted by Darnay Tripp. “Our league is a whole lot better than everybody thinks it is. So please don’t tell me about the lack of playing home games against good opponents and the lack of good teams in our league.”
