The growing trend in college sports is coaches finding new and creative ways to tell former walk-on players that they now have a scholarship.

On Tuesday, the Tennessee Volunteers got in on the action, presenting redshirt sophomore TE Eli Wolf (brother of senior TE Ethan Wolf) with a scholarship.

Coach Butch Jones presented the younger Wolf with the paperwork just before the two brothers were set to square off in the Vols’ popular “Circle of Life” drill:

Eli said he was completely caught off-guard by the scholarship, saying he was only focused on defeating his brother in the drill:

“It was a total surprise,” he said. “I was just worried about knocking my brother in the mouth.”

Eli Wolf redshirted during the 2015 season and recorded one catch for eight yards in 2016. His brother, meanwhile, had 21 catches for 239 yards and two scores.

Both Wolfs should be bigger parts of the Vols’ offense this fall.
