One of Jimbo Fisher’s main tasks this spring is to get to know the players he’s inherited in College Station. While those evaluations are ongoing, at the same time, the Aggies are learning what kind of coach they got when Texas A&M lured Fisher away from Florida State.

Based on the interviews taken this spring from Texas A&M players, Fisher is a demanding coach but one they expect to get the most out of them.

These comments from quarterback Nick Starkel, who is in the midst of a quarterback competition with Kellen Mond, shed light on how Fisher coaches up QBs in his offensive system.

“He’s out there testing us every play. Whether you do it right or wrong, a question he asks a thousand times, you’re still going to hear a thousand more times is ‘why?’ He wants to know why you made that throw. Whether it’s making a good decision or a bad decision,” Starkel says in the video.

“If you can’t answer those questions, you can’t eliminate the mistakes, then you can’t repeat the successes that you’ve had. So he’s always asking why, always making you think. Mentally, it’s really tough and physically it’s demanding as well.”
