WATCH: Tua Tagovailoa takes Alabama teammates on tour of Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor
During their visit to Hawaii, several Alabama players got a tour of the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. In a recent AL.com video posted to YouTube, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa shared his thoughts on taking his Crimson Tide teammates to the sacred site in his native state.
If you need a quick history lesson on the importance of the site, the USS Arizona was bombed — along with several other ships — by Japan on Dec. 7, 1941, sparking America’s direct involvement in World War II. In the attack, 1,177 sailors and Marines lost their lives on the ship. Tragically, over 900 of their bodies could not be recovered and remain onboard to this day, according to the National Park Service.
The Arizona Memorial site averages over 4,000 visitors a day.
Tagovialoa’s teammates Joshua Casher and Alex Leatherwood, along with ‘Bama quarterback commit Taulia Tagovialoa, are featured in the video.
“This is a sacred place. I feel like when you come here, you show it some respect,” Casher says in the video.
