Week 10 SEC Players of the Week revealed following exciting Saturday slate
Week 10 came and went in the SEC, and it was a blur, especially for the top performers who set the world on fire. On Monday, those top players were rewarded when the conference released its Players of the Week.
At the top of the list were the co-Offensive Players of the Week from Ole Miss. Quarterback Jaxson Dart and wide receiver Jordan Watkins both had record-setting performances in the Rebels’ 63-31 punishing of Arkansas.
Dart had an Ole Miss single-game record 562 yards of total offense (515 passing, 47 rushing), which broke Archie Manning’s 1969 record of 540 yards against Alabama. Dart completed 25-of-31 passes for 515 yards and 6 touchdowns, which broke the Rebels’ single-game yardage record while tying the TD record.
Meanwhile, Watkins turned in the greatest receiving performance in Ole Miss history, breaking the Rebels’ single-game records for both receiving yards (254) and touchdowns (5) on 8 receptions.
Ole Miss was also recognized on the defensive side of the ball, as linebacker TJ Dottery was named co-Defensive Player of the Week. Dottery led the Rebels with 6 total tackles, had 2 sacks and 2.5 tackles-for-loss. The sacks and tackles-for-loss were both career-highs for Dottery.
Georgia linebacker Chaz Chambliss was also recognized for his defensive excellence in Saturday’s victory over Florida. Chambliss had 6 tackles, 4 of them solo, had 2 sacks and 2.5 tackles-for-loss.
Vanderbilt punter Jesse Mirco and South Carolina kicker Alex Herrera shared the Special Teams Players of the Week award. Mirco averaged 52.9 yards on a career-high-tying 8 punts in Vandy’s victory at Auburn, which was the Commodores’ first-ever win at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Meanwhile, Herrera converted all 3 of his field goals and all 5 extra points for 14 points in the Gamecocks’ 44-20 upset of then-No. 10 Texas A&M on Saturday night in Columbia.
South Carolina’s Torricelli Simpkins III was named the Offensive Lineman of the Week for his stellar performance in that upset of the Aggies. He graded out at 88% with 6 pancake blocks and 3 knockdowns, and he helped the Gamecocks pile up 530 yards of total offense.
Ole Miss’s Princely Umanmielen kept the Rebels’ roll call of top performers in Week 10 going by taking the Defensive Lineman of the Week award. He finished with 2 sacks for the 2nd consecutive game, giving him 7.5 sacks this season.
Finally, South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers was named Freshman of the Week. He completed 13-of-27 passes for a career-high 244 yards and 2 touchdowns in that upset of Texas A&M.
