Week 5 SEC commits’ highlights: Auburn RB prospect compiles more than 300 total yards

SEC COMMITS

Devan Barrett, RB, 4-star Auburn commit (Tampa, Fla.)

Auburn already has a formidable two-headed rushing attack in sophomores Kerryon Johnson (517 yards) and Kamryn Pettway (336 yards).

The Tigers might have to welcome a third running back to the fold next season.

Barrett racked up 334 total yards and 3 touchdowns on just 25 touches as Tampa Catholic beat Berkeley Prep 25-10 in district action last Friday night. The No. 17 running back in this year’s class outgained the opposing offense by 71 yards by himself.

Barrett — standing at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds — rushed 22 times for 256 yards, an average of 11.6 yards per carry. He rushed for touchdowns of 64 and 16 yards, including this game-sealing score that saw him dodge several defenders as he reversed field.

The 34th-ranked player in Florida (No. 220 overall) also turned a screen pass into a 59-yard touchdown, finishing the night with 3 catches for 78 yards.

Here are the complete highlights from Barrett’s big-time performance.

Toneil Carter, RB, 4-star Georgia commit (Houston, Texas)

Georgia is currently benefitting from having a stable of talented running backs, and the Bulldogs are seemingly trying to keep it that way under coach Kirby Smart.

Carter — the second-highest ranked running back in Georgia’s 2017 recruiting class — had his best game of the season as Langham Creek defeated Cypress Woods 62-35 last Thursday night. He topped 100 yards in a game for the first time this season, rushing 16 times for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns without posting a single negative run.

The No. 113 prospect in the nation received just a portion of his team’s 41 carries but still gained almost 10 yards a pop. At 5-foot-10, 197 pounds, Carter has great burst and breakaway speed that makes him the No. 7 running back in the country and the No. 16 player in Texas in 2017.

Kary Vincent, CB, 4-star LSU commit (Port Arthur, Texas)

When LSU fired Les Miles on Sept. 25, there was reasonable speculation that the Tigers’ 2017 recruiting class would experience a string of defections.

But Vincent reaffirmed his commitment on Twitter and his skills on the field.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound cornerback returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the first quarter alone to help Memorial blow past Nederland for a 42-12 win last Friday. The No. 122 overall recruit had more than 100 yards in interception returns, leaving opposing offensive players in the dust.

Vincent is ranked as the 19th-best player in talent-rich Texas and the No. 14 cornerback nationally. Naturally, he tweeted about DBU — the moniker claimed by LSU, among several other schools — after his huge game in the secondary.
