Week 9 SEC commits’ highlights: South Carolina commit forces fumble with huge hit
Every week throughout the season, we’ll provide some video highlights of the SEC’s top commits.
SEC COMMITS
Jamyest Williams, CB, 4-star South Carolina commit (Loganville, Ga.)
At 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, Williams’ lack of size is what many scouts agree holds him back from being a 5-star prospect.
But that doesn’t mean he can’t lay a hit.
Williams forced a game-changing fumble and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns as Grayson High School defeated Alabama’s Hoover High School 36-14 in a game televised on ESPNU.

The turnover ended a promising Buccaneers drive and helped the Rams take a two-score lead in the second half. Hoover narrowed the deficit to 22-14 late in the third quarter, but Williams — who also excels as a running back — scored the final two touchdowns of the game to seal the win for Grayson.

It was an outstanding overall outing for South Carolina’s top 2017 commit. Williams is considered the sixth-best prospect in Georgia, the No. 7 cornerback nationally and the No. 58 player in this year’s crop.
As the crown jewel of Will Muschamp’s first recruiting class in Columbia, he’s a big reason why the Gamecocks have the No. 15 class a few months ahead of National Signing Day.
Will Ignont, LB, 4-star Tennessee commit (New Market, Ala.)
If Tennessee’s defense is decimated by injuries next year like it has been in 2016, the Volunteers won’t have to worry about too big of a drop-off in talent.
Tennessee landed a big-time recruit in Ignont last Wednesday, 24 hours before he recorded 5 tackles (1 for loss) and two short rushing touchdowns in Buckhorn High School’s 42-23 win against North Jackson to close out the season.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker finished his senior year with 72.5 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks for the Bucks, who failed to make the Class 7A playoffs. Ignont had recorded 113 tackles as a junior en route to being named a first-team All-State player.
The No. 206 overall player in 2017 visited Tennessee during its 49-10 loss to top-ranked Alabama on Oct. 15 but still picked the Vols over Florida State and a host of other SEC schools.
Ignont is touted as the ninth-best inside linebacker and the No. 11 prospect from Alabama in this year’s class. He’s also the third-highest rated player in Tennessee’s recruiting class that ranks No. 9 nationally.

Malik Davis, RB, 3-star Florida commit (Tampa Bay, Fla.)
The Gators didn’t have to wait long to fill an unexpected hole in their recruiting class.
After 4-star running back Adarius Lemons decommitted last Tuesday night, Davis pledged to Florida the following morning. He followed that up by playing a small but effective role as Jesuit High School extended its undefeated season and won its district championship with a 48-14 win against Spoto High School.
Davis received just five of his team’s 40 carries but turned the tiny workload into 113 yards and a touchdown. He rushed for 22.6 yards per carry and added one reception for three yards.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound back had previously set the Hillsborough County all-time rushing record by topping 5,774 yards on Oct. 14. Davis has 1,340 yards and 22 touchdowns on just 121 carries as a senior.
He’s rated as the No. 57 running back and the No. 130 player in talent-rich Florida in the Class of 2017.
