What Brian Kelly said following LSU’s SEC Championship loss to Georiga

Head coach Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers did not have the game they were hoping for against the defending national champions, Georgia. The Tigers fell 50-30 in a game that never felt very close.
Kelly brought up the point a couple times that Georgia was simply the better team Saturday afternoon in Atlanta. Still, as he said, you have to bring your all against the No. 1 team in the country if you want to walk out with a win.
Brian Kelly postgame:
“The best team won today, but I love the way this team competed and fought. Unfortunately we were not clean enough in certain areas against the No. 1 team in the country.”

LSU got some good play from backup quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, too. Starter Jayden Daniels was obviously not 100% and had to leave just after halftime. Nussmeier came in and threw for 294 yards and 2 touchdowns with 1 interception.
Kelly addressed why Daniels left postgame.
Brian Kelly said Jayden Daniels re-injured his ankle in the second quarter as he stepped up in the pocket. #LSU

Kelly also addressed some obvious errors the Tigers made throughout the night, including a blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown. He took full responsibility for the misplay, saying he and the coaching staff has to prepare the players to be more alert in those situations.
Kelly on the blocked field goal getting returned: “Obviously we did a poor job coaching. It’s our responsibility to have those guys alert.”

Here are more of Kelly’s comments from his postgame press conference.
Asked about the gap with Georgia, Brian Kelly said, “The divide is not huge, but we’ve got work to do.”
Thinks #LSU isn’t far off and can win the West again.
“That will be our goal. To get back here — and to win it.”

Brian Kelly asked about his goals for his team the next two weeks: “Academics. They have exams.”
Then touches on weights, recruiting, a postseason team banquet, and bowl prep.

Brian Kelly on Garrett Nussmeier: “He’s pushing the ball downfield and giving our guys a chance to make plays. He did a nice job with that.”

Brian Kelly: “This foundation is really strong. We will be able to continue to build on it. To get back here next year – and to win it – that will be our goal.”
