Tennessee is coasting against UConn in the Vols’ homecoming game.
Up 35-3 heading into the break, Tennessee’s offense has been dominant all game. 3 of the Vols’ 4 offensive touchdowns have come on plays worth 60 or more yards, and Tennessee is currently averaging 13.9 yards per play. The Vols full-game record is is 10.9 against Kentucky in 2000.
Heupel spoke about the teams dominant half before heading into the locker room.
“Creating turnovers, creating momentum, we want to do that in the football game,” Heupel said.
Tennessee’s 5th touchdown of the half came on a scoop-and-score from Tyler Baron, giving him his first defensive touchdown of the season.
“Great for Tyler, he’s had a couple that have been close to being returned but we didn’t get the call,” Heupel said. “Very excited for him.”
Despite the hot start, Heupel still has some things he wants to clean up in the second half.
“We’ve got 30 more minutes of football to play, but there’s been a lot that we’ve liked,” Heupel said. “Some things we can clean up on both sides of the football. Efficiency offensively and defensively we’ve gotta tighten up in pass coverage.”
