What Kirby Smart said after Georgia’s 63-17 win over Murray State

Kirby Smart had plenty to discuss after Georgia’s 63-17 victory over Murray State, including the Bulldogs’ slow start, and emergence of freshman WR George Pickens.
Pickens had 4 catches for 78 yards and a TD, while RB Zamir White led the Bulldogs with 8 carries for 72 yards and a TD.
Here are some highlights of what Smart told the media:
- George Pickens has started to step up and be an overall player. Meaning probably the most impressive play he did today was sprung a block on D’Andre Swift’s long run.
- We had a couple slow series there on offense. Got beat on a twist, gave up a sack. Guys persevered, kept playing hard. You go into these games knowing you want to score every play and you think you should score every drive and hold them to zero yards, and they’ve got good players too. Got to give them some credit and our kids kept playing and that’s kind of what our mantra is.
- It’s important. It’s not just talk, we live it. I may miss some things, but I never miss a special teams meeting.
- We gotta tackle better. We have to do better as coaches. Our timing in the passing game needs to improve as well.
- I love Cade (Mays) because he plays with a fire in his belly. Cade is a competitor. When we score a touchdown, he’s the first guy to celebrate with a back.
- I want to thank the fans for coming out and braving the heat. Showing out like that for Coach Dooley was special.
