What Kirby Smart said with Georgia ahead at halftime of the SEC Championship Game
Georgia played about as well as fans could’ve hoped in the first half of Saturday’s SEC Championship Game, holding a 21-14 lead against No. 1 Alabama at halftime.
Just don’t expect Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart to pat his team on the back too thoroughly.
In a halftime radio interview, Smart didn’t sound too thrilled with Georgia’s first-half performance. He was critical of his team’s defensive showing, especially against the run, despite the No. 4 Bulldogs holding Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to 34 yards and on just 4 of 11 passing.
Kirby Smart's halftime interview on @wsbradio. "We aren’t playing every good on defense. Disappointed we can’t stop the run. But offense is playing well. We are getting physical and grinding it out like we like to do. "

That’s vintage stuff from Smart, though, who spent years coaching under Alabama’s Nick Saban. He knows all too well that the Crimson Tide can erupt for a huge second half, so it’s no surprise to see Smart looking for ways to improve at halftime.
