After getting to 1-0 in SEC play, Alabama took a break from the conference slate in Week 4, getting in a tuneup against Southern Miss before taking on division rival Ole Miss next week.

The Crimson Tide won decisively (49-7) and head coach Nick Saban could find few negatives – only the first-half finish – from UA’s blowout win on Saturday.

Here are some of the highlights of what Saban said in his postgame press conference:

  • “I was really pleased with the early start. I think the defense played well early in the game.”
  • “The defense saw a lot of of stuff they had to adjust to in the game and I thought they did a fairly good job of that.”
  • Only negative was the first-half finish.
  • “I thought we ran OK. We had a lot of positive runs, we had a few negative runs.”
  • On RB Najee Harris: He ran with a lot of toughness, had a lot of positive, effective runs.
  • K Will Reichard has a pulled hip flexor, might be questionable for Ole Miss game.
  • DJ Dale should be okay with a patellar tendon strain.
  • “We’ve got confidence in Christian Harris. I thought he played better today.”
  • Terrell Lewis hyperextended his knee in last game. He should be able to play against Ole Miss.
