If current trends persist, Saturday’s massive showdown between No. 1 Alabama and No. 3 LSU won’t be decided by penalties.

The Crimson Tide commits only less than half a penalty per game than the Tigers, according to numbers provided by CFBStats.com. Those two SEC West rivals rank in the top half of the SEC in terms of penalties per game, which you can view in the table below.

However, penalties could make a difference in the other marquee SEC game Saturday — No. 6 Georgia averages about one fewer penalty per game than No. 9 Kentucky.

Even coming off a bye, Ole Miss didn’t cede its last-place status to Florida, though both teams are far removed from the rest of the conference when it comes to penalties.
