Why Alabama fans are going to be conflicted in NFL’s Week 1 schedule

Alabama fans will be torn in Week 1 of the NFL season because instead of having a game between Cam Newton and the New England Patriots vs Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins, Bama fans will have Tua vs Mac Jones.

The Patriots announced that not only Jones will start, but that they have released Newton. As most recall, Jones was the third-string quarterback behind not only Tagovailoa but Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts early in his UA career.

But after both went to the NFL last year, it was Jones’s team. Jones led the Crimson Tide to the national championship this past season, throwing for 4500 yards and 41 touchdown passes. He also finished third in the Heisman Trophy race.

This may be the first time in years that three quarterbacks from the same school will start in the NFL this season. As NFL division rivals, Week 1 won’t be the only time Tua and Mac will face each other this year; they are also scheduled to face each other in the last game of the regular season Jan. 9.
