Wild Butch Jones-to-Purdue rumors shot down by those in the know
By Adam Spencer
Published:
On Tuesday night, rumors began to permeate that Tennessee coach Butch Jones was possibly in the mix to become Purdue’s next head coach.
It was noted that two flights had gone from Knoxville to Purdue in the past three days and many fans were alarmed by the sudden de-commitments of three prized recruits on Tuesday night.
However, those rumors were shot down by those with more knowledge of the Tennessee situation on Wednesday:
I’m honestly not sure why everyone is tweeting at me about Butch Jones & Purdue; but guys, Butch isn’t going to Purdue. Nope. Move on.

USA TODAY’s Dan Wolken also weighed in on the Purdue rumors:
I got same. Best I can tell it was a fake Twitter account spreading it last night. https://t.co/ekKbtwuc7u

So, for now, it appears Jones’s job in Knoxville is safe. Tennessee will find out what bowl game it will play in on Sunday.
