A wild card name has emerged in the search for South Carolina’s next coach.
According to Josh Kendall, a Gamecocks beat writer at The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C., it’s 55-year-old Rich Bisaccia, a long-time special teams coordinator in the NFL.

Bisaccia does have a history in Columbia. He worked as a grad assistant and then as an assistant coach at South Carolina from 1988 to 1993, then spent five seasons at Clemson and three at Ole Miss.
He’s served as the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys since 2013.
Interestingly, Auburn hired Bisaccia as its special teams coach, running backs coach and assistant head coach in ’13. The school, with coach Gus Malzahn’s blessing, released him from his contract less than a month later to allow him to sign with the Cowboys.
The 55-year-old from Yonkers New York, never has been a head coach.
Other names that have been linked to the job at South Carolina include Kirby Smart, Tom Herman, Will Muschamp and Jeremy Pruitt.
