The secret to Alabama’s top-ranked defense has finally been revealed — on top of its consistent four- and five-star talent, the Crimson Tide tackles better than everyone else.
Mike Renner, a senior analyst at Pro Football Focus, tweeted Wednesday that Alabama has missed just 7.6 percent of their tackles, which he said is “easily the best in the country.”
Alabama has missed tackles on only 7.6% of their attempts this season, easily the best in the country.

When compared to the average rate of 13.4 percent tackles missed, it’s easy to see why the Crimson Tide is ranked No. 1 nationally in three major statistical categories: scoring defense (11.4 points per game), rushing defense (68.7 yards per game) and total defense (246.8).
That defensive prowess is a big reason why Alabama is ranked No. 1 in every major poll and is the only undefeated Power 5 team remaining.
It’s also the Crimson Tide’s biggest mismatch against No. 15 Florida’s sluggish offense, which it will face in the SEC Championship Game at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday in Atlanta.
