Will Muschamp wrapped up his introductory news conference on Saturday with one thing in mind: recruiting.
“As soon as we get done and walk out of that door, we’re going,” Muschamp said.
Auburn’s new defensive coordinator immediately hit the road recruiting for the Tigers on Saturday and Sunday. Muschamp credited the talent and depth along the Tigers’ defensive front, though there are plenty of holes that need filling.
Muschamp and head coach Gus Malzahn were looking to visit with defensive prospects before the NCAA’s dead period took effect on Monday. Among those reportedly being visited by the pair are top uncommitted defensive tackle Daron Payne and JUCO cornerback Tony Bridges, who decommitted from Auburn and verbally committed to Ole Miss on Nov. 21.
Beginning Monday through Jan. 14, coaches may only make one phone call and email per week.
Muschamp has a clause in his Florida contract prohibiting him from recruiting Gators targets that Auburn itself was not already targeting.
Whoever negotiated Florida’s contract with Will Muschamp should get a raise. What a great clause about recruiting UF targets.

When asked about the clause during his introductory news conference on Saturday, Muschamp seemed clear on the limitations.
“As long as Auburn was previously recruiting a student-athlete, we’re more than welcome to recruit,” Muschamp said.
