Will Muschamp has been a huge piece of Kirby Smart’s coaching staff since 2021, but Muschamp’s time in Athens looks to be over.
According to the updated Georgia media guide for this coming season, the 53-year-old will not be with the program when the 2025 season kicks off next month. Muschamp, whose various SEC stops included head coaching stints at Florida and South Carolina and assistant coaching stints at LSU and Auburn, wasn’t listed on Georgia’s media guide after serving as a defensive analyst last season. Muschamp also was a special teams coordinator under Smart in 2021 and a co-defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach in 2022 and 2023.
His time at Georgia was valuable for the program, which rose to the top of college football by capturing national championships in 2021 and 2022. But this spring, when Smart was asked about Muschamp’s role with the program going forward, he said a decision would be made at a later time.
That comment sparked some uncertainty, which apparently was warranted with Muschamp not being in the 2025 Georgia media guide.
Smart is scheduled to speak with reporters on Tuesday during the SEC Media Days, and it’s likely that he’ll provide more information on what happened with Muschamp at that time.
But it looks like a very vital piece of the Georgia coaching staff during the Bulldogs’ budding dynasty is no longer a part of the brain trust in Athens.
