It’s been a rough go for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Will Muschamp’s group is 0-2, losing to back-to-back ranked opponents in Tennessee and Florida and needing to correct course as quickly as possible.

Despite the slow start, some individual performances have impressed Muschamp. One player, in particular, is defensive back John Dixon, who has gradually begun to find himself more involved in the defensive backfield due to injuries and formational adjustments.

“I thought John really showed up and flashed,” Muschamp said, according to 247Sports. “He did really good things holding their gunners up on our punt block unit. I think he continues to improve and we need to continue to get better with him. I’m proud of how he’s played.”

Dixon nearly had a takeaway as well during the Florida game, where he was given the starting assignment—the second of his career.

“He had a 50-50 ball I thought he was going to make an interception on, but their guy did a good job of getting it off of him,” Muschamp said.

South Carolina travels to Vanderbilt on Saturday.
