Will Muschamp puts foot down: I’m not discussing injuries for rest of the year

Don’t expect any other injury reports from Will Muschamp this season.

According to the Charleston (S.C) Post & Courier’s David Cloninger, the South Carolina head coach will not provide injury updates for the remainder of 2020, with the reasoning behind it being the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is an interesting move by Muschamp. Of course, there’s nothing in the NCAA rule books that require college coaches to provide updates on injuries throughout the week, so he is well within his right to do so.

The good news is that the Gamecocks’ injury list has been relatively short.

Heading into the game against Florida, there was concern about cornerback Israel Mukuamu’s availability, but during his weekly call-in radio show on Thursday, Muschamp mentioned that the junior was good to go after a minor groin injury sustained against Tennessee. Outside of that, linebacker Sherrod Greene will miss the next few weeks with a hip fracture, while fellow linebacker Jahmar Brown was deemed “day-to-day” but didn’t play against the Gators.

The most significant loss for the Gamecocks has been at running back, as highly touted true freshman MarShawn Lloyd was lost during preseason with a knee injury.

We’ll see if Muschamp changes his mind down the road, but with his team off to a 0-2 start, he’ll need to get his team up to speed quickly before its bowl aspirations completely disappear.
