As South Carolina enters the final two regular-season games of Year 3 under Will Muschamp, many in the media are evaluating the program with the long-term big picture in mind.
There have been ups and downs to the first three seasons under Muschamp. The Gamecocks are an awful 1-11 against ranked teams. Overall, however, Muschamp has won 20 games. The late-scheduled Akron game on Dec. 1 and the bowl game mean Muschamp could get to 21 or 22 wins through three seasons. Steve Spurrier had 21 in his first three seasons coaching the Gamecocks.
South Carolina has seen two familiar foes, Kentucky and Clemson, benefit from the continuity of long rebuilds. Despite that, Muschamp isn’t asking for any “patience” from fans as Year 3 winds down.
“Patience is something I don’t have,” Muschamp said on his Sunday conference call. “I’m not a patient person and I don’t want our fanbase to be patient either.”
Muschamp is certainly aware that if he continues to lose to rivals Georgia and Clemson, patience in Gamecock Nation will wear thin.
Muschamp on if he thinks Gamecock fans have the patience to allow him to build a championship level program: “Patience is something I don’t have. I’m not a patient person and I don’t want our fanbase to be patient either.”
