This is how mousetraps helped South Carolina beat Missouri

South Carolina coach Will Muschamp didn’t want his players to feel too good about its upset win over Tennessee in Week 9. The Gamecocks were still just a .500 team, after all.

So it was important for Muschamp to make sure achieving back-to-back wins didn’t turn into a disappointing one-game losing streak when South Carolina hosted Missouri last Saturday. That’s why he came up with this great idea in hopes of keeping his guys focused on the next task.

He put mousetraps all over South Carolina’s football building.

“I put mousetraps all over the building to let them know don’t take the cheese,” Muschamp said. “Everybody is patting you on the back, telling you how good you are. But understand, this football team coming in here is certainly capable. Their last SEC win was against us.

“So, we needed to understand that and don’t take the cheese.”

South Carolina beat Missouri, 31-21, and improved to 5-4 (3-4) on the season with a three-game winning streak entering its next game with Florida at The Swamp.

They didn’t take the cheese, and it worked.
