Will Muschamp’s coaching advice for Marcus Lattimore was simple — “win.”

South Carolina’s coach said during a Tuesday news conference that he texted Lattimore, a former Gamecocks running back who got his first head coaching job Monday, to congratulate him.

Lattimore became the head coach at Heathwood Hall, which is also located in Columbia, after leading its middle school team to a championship last year.

He played for South Carolina from 2010-2012, even garnering second team All-American honors during his freshman year. Lattimore’s promising career, however, was plagued by injuries, prompting his retirement from the NFL in 2014.

Muschamp certainly knows a thing or two about Lattimore, having coached against him as Florida’s head man in 2011 and 2012.
