LSU got off to a hot start on Saturday morning against Auburn, taking a big lead in the first half.
However, down the stretch, Auburn refused to go away, eventually forcing overtime. In overtime, Auburn pulled off a 91-90 victory.
After the game, LSU coach Will Wade compared the loss to LSU’s loss to Utah State earlier this season. But, he added, he liked the energy from his team all day (via 247Sports):
“Yeah, it was a difficult game,” Wade said. “Give our guys credit. We were ready to. We played really well. One of our better games of the year. We just couldn’t close it out. McCormick hit 3 or 4 threes off the bounce. We didn’t switch out quite like we needed to and just give them credit. They made a lot of plays down the stretch. Give our guys credit in overtime to come back and give ourselves an opportunity like that was huge. We just came up a basket short.
“It’s gut punch, kinda like the Utah State game. We’ve had a lot of these games where we’ve played very, very well. Controlled the game for a while. It felt like we could never really pull away, we could never really get it above 12 or 14. When we were playing well, we missed some good shots.
“One of those days, but I can’t fault our guys’ effort. I was proud of how we bounced back after Wednesday night when things didn’t go as well. We’re certainly going to need to bounce back again and get ready to play Missouri on Tuesday.”
As Wade said, the Tigers get another group of Tigers — Mizzou — on Tuesday. That is suddenly a must-win game for LSU following a two-loss week.
