Wisconsin dropped a fourth straight game in a 37-0 shutout loss vs. visiting Iowa on Saturday. The Badgers began the season with 2 non-conference wins but have since lost to Alabama and fallen in all 3 Big Ten games (Maryland, Michigan, Iowa).
This loss against Iowa was particularly stinging. It’s Wisconsin’s first shutout loss at Camp Randall since Nov. 8, 1980. In that game, Michigan blanked Wisconsin 24-0.
Wisconsin finished with 209 yards offensively. Badgers quarterback Hunter Simmons completed 8 of his 21 passes for 82 yards and 2 interceptions. No Wisconsin receiver had more than 3 receptions. The running attack averaged 3.5 yards per carry.
Wisconsin’s defense held Iowa’s passing in check, as Mark Gronowki had 107 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. However, Iowa’s running game was the difference. The Hawkeyes rushed for 210 yards (5.8 yards per carry). Xavier Williams had 2 rushing touchdowns, while Kamari Moulton tallied 96 yards and a touchdown. Gronowki also had a rushing score.
It won’t get any easier for Wisconsin in the stacked Big Ten. The Badgers head to No. 1 Ohio State on Oct. 18 (3:30 p.m. ET/CBS). Ohio State leads the all-time series 63-18-5 with a 10-game winning streak against Wisconsin.
