Even though he slipped into the second round of the NFL Draft, Drew Lock had the “quarterback of the future” billing when he was selected by the Denver Broncos. The organization is looking for some long-term stability at the position ever since the retirement of Peyton Manning. While down in Miami for an autograph session as part of the city’s Super Bowl festivities, Lock revealed he’s looking forward to talking to getting some helpful advice from the former Bronco and Volunteer.

“I pretty much see him as a mentor,” Lock told Ryan O’Halloran of the Denver Post. “He’s a guy that’s invested so much time in football and loves the game of football so much, what better brain to pick? When did he start throwing in the offseason? How many weights did he lift? What days did he lift? How did he get the guys together (to throw)? Where did he go?

“Everything, really. And he’ll have the answers, too.”

While Manning can undoubtedly offer plenty of advice, Lock is on his own in one area. Unlike Manning, Lock will be navigating an early change in offensive coaching. Denver fired offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello and quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney, replacing them with Pat Shurmur and Mike Shula.

“I haven’t been able to talk football with Coach Shurmur yet, but the bottom line is, he said he’s going to make it as easy as possible for us to learn it, pick it up, play fast and be confident in what we’re doing,” Lock told the Post. “As far as being able to transition to another offense, I’ll be ready to do it.”

More from Lock, including what he’s been up to in his first NFL offseason, can be found in O’Halloran’s full article here.
